Diani Airport
(Ukunda Airport, UKA)
Gateway to the South Coast
Diani Airport — officially Ukunda Airport (IATA UKA · ICAO HKUK) — is the closest airport to Diani Beach and the main fly-in gateway to Kenya’s south coast. It handles scheduled domestic flights, safari connections and charters, landing you just 14 minutes from the sand instead of crossing the Likoni ferry from Mombasa.
Airport at a glance
Booking tip: “Diani Airport” rarely appears on flight platforms. Search UKA or Ukunda instead. Arrive 60–90 min before a domestic departure.
What is Diani Airport?
Diani Airport is the traveller-facing name for Ukunda Airport, a regional airport near Diani Beach in Kwale County, Kenya. It is the closest air access point for Diani, Ukunda, Tiwi, Galu, Kinondo, Msambweni, Chale Island, Shimoni and Wasini.
Unlike Mombasa Moi International Airport, which handles the coast’s larger and international traffic, Diani specialises in scheduled domestic flights, safari connections and charters. Its value is proximity — landing you a short transfer from the beach rather than across the Likoni ferry from Mombasa.
The airport was renamed from Ukunda Airstrip to Diani Airport by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, effective 25 April 2019, following a new control tower and a tourism strategy to strengthen Diani as a beach destination. In aviation and booking systems it is still widely listed as Ukunda.
It is managed by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) as operator, and regulated by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) for safety and air-navigation oversight.
